The Menai Strait at Beaumaris

Château Rhianfa is an enchanting Grade II* listed Victorian home, modelled on the 16th-century French Renaissance château of Chenonceau, standing amid spectacular gardens with commanding views over the Menai Strait to the peaks of Snowdonia. A private home until 1955, the estate — four acres with its own quayside — has been extensively restored, from the Grand Hall and wood-panelled sitting rooms to the Music Room, Drawing Room and Dining Room.

Close to Beaumaris and about 12 miles from the national park, the location suits sailing (the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club is nearby), walking, and the town’s boutique shopping and restaurants — though with Le Dragon Rouge serving French and British cooking in-house and an à la carte breakfast worth staying in for, you may not stray far.
