Walks First

Beaumaris sits on the Anglesey Coastal Path, so world-class dog walking starts at the pier gates. The classic outing heads east along the shore to Penmon Point — lighthouse views, sea air and hardly a road; the south-westerly leg towards Menai Bridge is equally good. In town, the Green and seafront promenade handle the everyday leg-stretch, and Red Wharf Bay’s enormous low-tide sands are a short drive away.
Boats, Pubs & Cafes
Unusually, the Puffin Island cruises are dog friendly with both operators — Seacoast Safaris and Starida both welcome dogs aboard, so the best hour on the water in North Wales needn’t exclude the hound. Back ashore, Beaumaris’s pubs are traditional and dog-tolerant in the bar areas — the Liverpool Arms with its nautical Admiral’s Tavern is a natural first stop, and the George & Dragon is a proper local. Several cafes offer outdoor tables along Castle Street and the seafront; ask inside, as welcome varies with the season and the kitchen.
Rules & Practicalities
As across Anglesey, some bathing beaches carry seasonal dog restrictions in summer months on the main stretches — signage on the promenade sets out the current zones, and the coastal path itself is unrestricted. Carry water on the Penmon walk (little shade in summer) and mind the tide if you drop onto the foreshore. Staying over? Several of the town’s self-catering cottages accept dogs — check individual listings.
A Dog’s Perfect Day
Field-tested itinerary: coastal path east from the pier at 9am (empty, cool, rich in smells), Lleiniog Beach swim mid-morning, water bowl and bar corner at the Liverpool Arms for lunch, then the afternoon boat to Puffin Island — most dogs settle happily to the engine note, and the seals cause highly satisfactory ear activity. Evening: the Green, a ball, and the last sun on the mountains. Practicalities: bins along the promenade, water bowls outside several Castle Street shops in summer, and the vets at Menai Bridge ten minutes away should anything need attention.
