The Headline: Menai Strait Regattas

The town’s signature event is the Menai Strait Regattas each summer — in 2026 running from 27 July to 8 August — a fortnight of racing largely based at Beaumaris, with fleets working the tides between here and Caernarfon, through the notorious Swellies and around Puffin Island. The view from the Green and the pier costs nothing and is superb.

Through the Year

Castle events — Cadw stages living-history and family events at the castle through school holidays; check cadw.gov.wales for the current programme. Food festival — Beaumaris hosts food festival weekends (the Beaumaris Food Fest), and the nearby Menai Food Festival at Menai Bridge adds another date to the calendar; dates move around, so check locally before travelling. Sailing — beyond regatta fortnight, the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club keeps the strait busy with club racing through the season.

Planning Around Events

Regatta fortnight and summer weekends are the pinch points for accommodation — book well ahead. Parking fills fastest on event days; the bus from Bangor sidesteps it entirely. For quieter pleasures, see Best Time to Visit — May, June and September give festival-free sunshine and empty coastal paths.

The Quieter Calendar

Beyond the headline fortnight, the town’s year has a gentle rhythm worth knowing: club sailing and rowing on summer evenings (the strait full of small boats at 6pm is quietly magical from the Green), seasonal markets and fairs around the Town Hall, church concerts at St Mary’s, and winter’s own attraction — storm-watching from the pier shelter with the mountains under snow. The Town Council and local notice boards on Castle Street carry the current month’s detail better than any website; check them on arrival and plan the evenings accordingly.
