Joseph Hansom’s Bulkeley Hotel (1832) is the grande dame — a Georgian showpiece yards from the beach and pier, with 43 en-suite rooms (lift-served), a restaurant cooking ‘a Taste of Wales’, a coffee shop, a real ale bar, and stunning views across the water to Snowdonia. Princess Victoria stayed the year it opened. It hosts weddings and functions for up to 140, and its lounge is the town’s all-weather sitting room.

Ye Olde Bull’s Head Inn pairs its 15th-century fabric with comfortable boutique-style rooms — sleeping above one of the best kitchens in town is the move here. The Liverpool Arms (1706), Grade II listed, offers ten en-suite rooms including family and four-poster options, full breakfast included, with the nautical Admiral’s Tavern below.
Townhouse & Château
Bishopsgate House Hotel is the boutique choice — a Georgian townhouse on Castle Street with individually decorated rooms, a peaceful garden and an AA Rosette restaurant. And ten minutes towards Menai Bridge, Château Rhianfa occupies a Grade II* listed Victorian mansion modelled on the Château de Chenonceau, set in four acres above the strait with its own quayside — the region’s most theatrical stay.
